Simple Ways to Refresh Your Living Room for Spring: 5 Ideas That Make a Big Impact

As the beautiful blooms of Spring are starting to confetti our neighbourhoods, and the days are finally noticeably longer, it’s the perfect time to breathe new life into our interiors. You don’t need a complete overhaul to capture that fresh spring feeling (believe me, we’ve only been in our house a few months and only our daughter’s room is fully done!) – just a few strategic updates can give that breath of fresh air you’ve been craving!

Here are five simple yet impactful ways to give your living room a spring refresh that you can accomplish in those few precious moments of spare time!

1. Swap Out Your Textiles for Lighter, Brighter Options

The easiest way to signal a seasonal change in your living room is through textiles. Pack away those heavy wool throws and velvet cushions that kept you cosy all winter, and replace them with lighter fabrics and cheerful patterns.

Here’s what to switch:

– Replace dark throw pillows with covers in soft pastels, crisp whites, or botanical prints if that’s your vibe.

– Trade your heavy knit blankets for lightweight linen or cotton throws in sage green, butter yellow, or coral

– If it’s feasible, consider swapping out your curtains for sheer or lighter-weight panels that let in more natural light

Shop your own home first! You may be surprised what you find in your own cupboards which can add a Spring lift to your décor.

2. Bring Nature Indoors with Fresh Greenery and Florals

Nothing says spring quite like fresh plants and flowers. This is your chance to create that indoor-outdoor connection that makes spaces feel alive and renewed.

Easy ways to add greenery:

– Place a large statement plant like a fiddle leaf fig or monstera in an empty corner

– Create a cluster of small potted herbs on your kitchen windowsill

– Fill a large glass vase with fresh branches – anything structural or that you think is beautiful are perfect. Don’t forget to shake out the bugs first!

– Display fresh tulips, daffodils, or peonies in simple white or clear vases

Visit your local supermarket for affordable blooms – Daffs are usually £1 a bunch so go crazy! Even simple greenery from your garden can look stunning in a tall vase or mixed with your supermarket posey.

 3. Rearrange Your Furniture Layout for Better Flow

Spring is about fresh perspectives, and sometimes that’s as simple as viewing your room from a new angle. Rearranging your furniture costs nothing but can make your space feel completely new.

Try these layout refreshers if it works for your space:

– Create a reading nook by moving a chair near a window with a small side table

– Clear pathways by removing unnecessary furniture pieces – spring is about lightness and flow

– Consider moving your coffee table off-center or swapping it for two smaller ottomans that can double as extra seating

Remember to measure the space before moving pieces around – I’ve often had a genius rejigging idea, only to be thwarted by the reality of the size of the area!

 4. Lighten and Brighten with Strategic Accessories

Dark, heavy accessories that felt cozy in winter can make your spring living room feel stuck in the wrong season. It’s time to edit and refresh your decorative elements.

Smart accessory swaps:

– Declutter those shelves – sometimes a simple cull and rotation of some of our decorative pieces can breathe new life into a room

– Add mirrors strategically to reflect natural light and make the space feel larger

– Incorporate woven baskets for both storage and textural interest

Follow the “rule of three” – group accessories in odd numbers at varying heights for the most visually pleasing arrangements.

5. Add a Fresh Scent and Deep Clean for That New-Season Feeling

Never underestimate the power of scent and cleanliness in transforming a space. I fully need to do the Spring Clean, but I’m actually looking forward to it and have booked some time off work to really concentrate on it. I’m a loser I know.

Complete your spring refresh:

– Deep clean your windows inside and out to maximize natural light

– Vacuum under sofa cushions and steam clean if possible

– Declutter cupboards and take those bags to charity!

– Swap out the Autumnal and wintery scented candles for fresher floral or citrus notes. My favourite ever candle range linked below.

– Open windows whenever weather permits to air out stale winter air

You can even create your own room spray with water, witch hazel, and essential oils like lemon and peppermint for an instant fresh feeling.

Putting It All Together

The beauty of these five spring refresh ideas is that you can implement them gradually or tackle them all in one weekend. Start with what feels most manageable – even just switching out throw pillows and adding a vase of fresh flowers can shift the entire mood of your living room.

Remember, spring decorating isn’t about perfection; it’s about creating a space that feels fresh, light, and renewed. Your living room should reflect the optimism and energy of the season while remaining functional for your daily life.

Quick Action Plan:

1. This weekend: Swap textiles and add fresh flowers

2. Next weekend: Rejig and update accessories

3. Throughout the month: Deep clean as weather and time permits and maintain fresh plants

While these aren’t sponsored recommendations, here are some brands that have genuinely transformed my spring refresh:

  • AromaWorks – Particularly their Petitgrain & Lavender and Lemongrass & Bergamot scents from the Light range. My absolute favourite candle brand. Affordable and Spa vibes.
  • Dunelm – they can seem to do no wrong. We were round a friend’s house at the weekend and I was admiring their new curtains and nets and both were Dunelm. I wasn’t surprised.
  • George Home – I get most of my daughters clothes from George, but their homewear is insane! I’m not even going to go into my SOLID WOOD, FULLY ASSEMBLED bedside tables right now. But check out their cushions and soft furnishings – most of which are between £8 – £20! Nailing Spring right now!
  • Daals – Their rattan range is *chef’s kiss*. I know I chose it and bought it myself, but I have to pinch myself every time I look at my Daals wardrobe in our entryway. I work opposite in it in our playroom/office/craft room 😉and when I need a little pick me up I just look over at it. Again, loser I know!
